Trinh Duc Minh, Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, said specialty coffee in Vietnam must exploit the domestic market.

“It is from the domestic market that the coffee brand will grow. When people know what good coffee is, Vietnamese coffee’s reputation will be enhanced. The supply chain of specialty coffee is different from that of conventional commercial coffee. Coffee processors buy coffee directly from farm owners or cooperatives, not through middlemen.”

A Vietnamese specialty coffee development project, launched in 2019 and piloted in Dien Bien, Son La, Quang Tri, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Lam Dong province, focuses on Robusta and Arabica coffee. The project aims to set the direction for Vietnamese specialty coffee development until 2030, strengthen Vietnamese coffee’s reputation, and boost the incomes of those on the coffee value chain.
