(VOVworld) - Vietnam is set to proactively deal with storm and flood, and organize search and rescue timely and efficiently. Representatives of relevant agencies and sectors met in Nha Trang City in the central province of Khanh Hoa to review last year’s activities and this year’s plan. They determined prevention as key solution. Last year saw complicated developments of natural calamities with 7 typhoons, severe impacts of the tropical low pressure system and particularly the year-end flash flood  in the Mekong delta. Natural calamities have left nearly 300 people dead and missing and destroyed property of almost 580 million USD. Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said: “It is always the top priority for the search and rescue centers as well as marine forces to save people. But we need to improve the capacity of our boats and ships to make sure that both people and property are the center of any rescue and search activities”.
