Vinh was speaking at the plenary session of the 67th UN General Assembly which concluded in New York, the US on Monday. He appreciated the 30th signing anniversary of the Law of Convention on the Sea as an opportunity for the international community to reaffirm their commitment to the Convention.
“Compliance with international law is an essential principle guiding the policies and actions of each nation, as well as the joint endeavours of the international community. As the 30th anniversary of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) will be celebrated later this year, Vietnam asserts its strong commitment to and compliance with this constitution which contributes to the maintenance of peace, stability, maritime security, safety and cooperation," he underscored.
The Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister said the UN should continue effort to solve development-related issues which are the root of many conflicts and disputes. Vinh asked the UN to further support its member countries to implement the Millennium Development Goals.
