Participants agreed that COVID-19 has made it difficult for countries around the world to manage and control migration. They highlighted the importance of the GCM, the first-ever global agreement on a common approach to international migration.
“Illegal border migration and human trafficking have decreased sharply thanks to strict border control measures and travel restrictions to contain coronavirus. But the problem remains in place," said Deputy Minister Dung.
"The long-lasting, severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are challenging us to make policies supporting returning migrants and seek funding and measures to promote legal migration post pandemic,” he noted.
