(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam always considers developing relations with China an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and its “four nos” defense policy, Party General Secretary To Lam said on Sunday at a reception in Hanoi for Zhao Leji, member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China.

Mr. Lam stressed that the two countries need to maintain close solidarity and advance together on the path toward socialism.

He proposed that the two legislatures strengthen economic connectivity, give priority to railway cooperation, promote balanced and sustainable trade, further open their markets, enhance science and technology cooperation, and expand people-to-people exchanges.

On the East Sea issue, the Party leader called on both sides to continue managing and addressing differences effectively, respect each other’s legitimate interests, put themselves in each other’s position, and work together to maintain a peaceful and stable environment so both socialist countries can focus on national development.

Chairman Zhao affirmed that China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with Vietnam, strengthen strategic connectivity between the two economies, and properly manage and resolve differences to jointly safeguard peace and stability at sea.

He emphasized that China attaches great importance to the China-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and the building of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, considering it a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy.
