(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony was held in Lang Son province on Friday to welcome a Chinese military medical delegation to Vietnam and to send off a Vietnamese medical team to China, as both sides launched cross-border medical missions to provide free checkups, treatment, and medicine to residents along the Vietnam-China border.

The initiative is part of the 9th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange and marks the first time both countries are conducting simultaneous medical outreach missions across their shared border.

Led by Colonel Tran Cong Truong, Deputy Director of the Military Medical Department under the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnamese team traveled to China to work alongside Chinese counterparts in serving local communities. Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation will join Vietnamese forces to treat patients in Vietnam.

The missions will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Over the years, this program has brought practical benefits to thousands of people, including many ethnic minorities, helping to improve public health and quality of life in the border region.
