Vietnam calls for negotiations of comprehensive solution in Cyprus

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is concerned over the negotiation deadlock, agreement violations, and complications occurring in Cyprus, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations said on Monday at an online UN Security Council meeting.

Mr. Quy sympathized with the difficulties of the people of Cyprus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and expressed concern about the halted dialogue, breached agreements, and complex developments in the region.

Ambassador Quy reiterated Vietnam's support for Cyprus' independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He called for a dialogue to seek a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council resolutions. He welcomed mediation by the UN Secretary General and asked all parties to respect and facilitate activities of the UN peacekeeping mission.
