Vietnam calls for IAEA’s support for policy making, human resource training

(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his hope that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will continue to cooperate with Vietnam, especially in policy development and human resource training in atomic energy.

At a meeting in Hanoi on Thursday with IAEA Deputy Director General Hua Liu, Deputy Prime Minister Quang said Vietnam commits to fulfilling its obligations and contributing responsibly to international treaties to which Vietnam is a member, especially related to safety and security control, combating illegal trafficking and transportation of radioactive substances, nuclear materials, and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

These will be contributing to the IAEA's efforts to address issues of common concern of the international community and promote the application of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, the Deputy Prime Minister said. He added that Vietnam always supports the central and leading role of the IAEA in shaping standards and frameworks on nuclear safety and security, especially for emerging nuclear technology.

The IAEA Deputy Director General said that the IAEA will continue to cooperate with Vietnam, especially in technical assistance, capacity building, improving infrastructure, perfecting regulations to ensure nuclear safety and security, promote the application of nuclear techniques in smart agricultural development.
