Vietnam calls for efforts to maintain ASEAN's solidarity, centrality, and adherence to international law

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Vice Chairman Vu Hong Thanh proposed that ASEAN reinforce its unity and centrality, while upholding international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Mr. Thanh led a Vietnamese National Assembly delegation at the preparatory meeting for the ASEAN-AIPA Leaders’ Interface 2025 held on Sunday as part of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He affirmed Vietnam’s continued support of, and close coordination with, 2025 ASEAN Chair Malaysia in fulfilling the goals and priorities of its AIPA presidency.

The Vietnamese delegation said that, in the wake of adopting the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and new strategic plans, AIPA must send a strong message of support and commitment to working closely with ASEAN governments and citizens to realize these shared goals. They highlighted the need to continue narrowing development gaps and advancing the Mekong and other sub-regions.
