(VOVworld) – Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, has called for promoting dialogue and co-operation to address human rights issues in Iran, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and Myanmar.

Thanh made the statement at an opening session of the 3^rd working week of the 28^th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.
He said Vietnam supports efforts for constructive dialogues and co-operation between Pyongyang and parties concerned to address any existing problems. Vietnam stands ready to join endeavours to promote and facilitate substantial dialogues among related parties.
Ambassador Thanh also lauded recent progress in the human rights situation in Iran, suggesting that Iran and relevant parties need to keep up this momentum and hold practical dialogues to resolve current issues.
Ambassador Thanh said Vietnam welcomed Myanmar’s achievements in reforms, democratisation, and national reconciliation which have promoted social stability, economic growth, and gender equality, and protected the rights of vulnerable groups, including ethnic minorities. He said the international community needs to support Myanmar in the protection and promotion of its citizens’ rights through dialogues, rather than political pressure.
As a Co-ordinator of ASEAN at the UNHRC, Vietnam reiterated ASEAN’s solidarity with Myanmar and support for Myanmar’s commitments to reform, democratisation and national reconciliation and its goodwill in the co-operation with relevant UN mechanisms. Thanh conveyed the ASEAN message that the international community needs to have an objective, unbiased approach free from double standards and politicisation when it comes to considering Myanmar’s human rights issues.
