Vietnam, Bulgaria issue joint statement

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Bulgaria issued a joint statement affirming the commitments of the two countries' senior leaders to promote cooperation in areas where both sides have strengths and needs.

The joint statement was made on the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam from November 24-28 by President Rumen Radev, his wife, and a high-ranking delegation of Bulgaria at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

Regarding political and diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Bulgaria were committed to continuing to develop mutually beneficial cooperation based on mutual respect and trust; to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels; and to demonstrate the political trust of the two countries’ leaders, and to create a driving force to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields in accordance with the new situation.

The two agreed to maintain regular political consultations between the two foreign ministries  to exchange views on bilateral issues and stance on global and regional issues of mutual concern; and to strengthen coordination and mutual support at international forums, especially the United Nations and the ASEAN-EU framework.

Regarding economic and trade cooperation, both sides underscored the importance of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade and Scientific and Technological Cooperation, considering it an important mechanism to promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest and benefit.

The two support the further deepening of Vietnam-EU relations based on the Vietnam-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, plus free trade agreements, and Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement to create new opportunities for the bilateral relations.

They will facilitate access for each other's goods to their respective markets, with a target of raising bilateral trade to 500 million USD in the near future.

For defense-security cooperation, the two pledged to strengthen defense cooperation through strategic dialogues at all levels, study the possibility of establishing a working-level defense consultation mechanism; and strength training cooperation, with the immediate target of training Vietnamese military pilots in Bulgaria.  

The joint statement between Vietnam and Bulgaria emphasized the commitment of both sides to promote cooperation in science and technology, education and training, culture, sports and tourism, and cooperation between localities.

It spoke highly of the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Bulgaria in tightening the friendship and contributing to the economic and trade development and investment cooperation between the two countries.
