(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam always considers Belgium an important partner in the EU and wants to further develop bilateral ties, particularly in economics, trade, investment, high-tech agriculture, climate change response and environmental protection, President Vo Van Thuong said at a reception in Hanoi on Tuesday for Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who is on a visit to Vietnam as Honorary President of UNICEF Belgium.

President Thuong said Vietnam prioritizes child care, education and protection, with the view of giving the best to children. Vietnam has fine-tuned its legal system and launched policies related to children such as poverty reduction, new rural development, education, and health care.

He said he believed that while visiting projects funded by UNICEF Belgium in Vietnamese localities, Queen Mathilde will better understand Vietnam’s efforts, achievements and difficulties in the field.

Queen Mathilde shared her excitement about her upcoming trip to Lao Cai province to witness the results of childcare facilities there and Vietnam’s achievements in sustainable development.

She said she hopes to learn about difficulties that Vietnam is facing in child health care and protection, especially issues related to education, nutrition, and mental health.
