(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam will continue to work closely with foreign partners to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world, with the motto “leave no one behind”, said Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet at the ongoing session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Viet said Vietnam has made significant though uneven progress in SDGs achievement, but without greater efforts and further international assistance, many SDGs will not be achieved by 2030. "We look forward to the valuable support and assessment of the international community, including UNESCAP, so we can realize our aspirations for sustainable development and our commitment at COP 26," he added.

Viet highlighted opportunities and challenges during the process of socio-economic development and implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the region and Vietnam in particular, underlining challenges from climate change in the Asia-Pacific region and Vietnam. He suggested strengthening regional cooperation in environmentally-friendly trade and investment, tourism, connectivity, digital transformation and sustainable urban development.

He urged ESCAP to hasten its commitments, coordinate regional cooperation, help regional countries evaluate their progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, and enhance their statistical capacity.
