(VOVWORLD) -Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on Tuesday paid an official visit to New Zealand and co-chaired the first Vietnam-New Zealand Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Nguyen Van Trung said this is the first official visit by a Vietnamese Foreign Minister to New Zealand and also the first ministerial visit of a Southeast Asian country to New Zealand since it opened its borders on August 1 after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The visit provides an opportunity for the two sides to review the implementation of the Strategic Partnership framework and propose practical measures to boost multifaceted cooperation in line with new global and regional developments. They will also discuss preparation for the exchange of delegations between the two countries' senior leaders, Ambassador Trung said.
