At a workshop held on Tuesday to provide information about GII 2023, Vietnam was mentioned as one of seven middle-income countries showing the most progress in innovation over the last decade.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said that coordination from input to output is needed to promote innovation. Duy said he hopes that, with support from WIPO, the Ministry of Science and Technology and related units can carry out innovation evaluations for localities so they can identify the right direction to follow to raise Vietnam’s position in the GII rankings.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, the WTO, and other international organizations in Geneva, said Vietnam’s position in the GII 2023 rankings is encouraging but also poses a big challenge for the coming time.

Vietnam needs to tap into its enormous potential and boost technology transfer and innovation to develop high-quality brands of Vietnamese goods and services in foreign markets.

Ambassador Mai promised that the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN will help Vietnam work with WIPO and related organizations in innovation and technology transfer to develop new products and services.
