Mr. Ludovino spoke at a workshop on Friday in Dak Lak province.
He said that the deadline for implementation of the EU’s regulations is quickly approaching, but the EU believes that Vietnam’s responsibility and early preparation can help the country meet the requirements of the EUDR.
The EUDR came into force on June 29, 2023, and will exist from December 30, 2024 for non-SME operators and traders, with a derogation until June 30, 2025 for small and micro-enterprises (SMEs).
The new rules aim to prevent deforestation and forest degradation and are expected to eliminate at least 32 million metric tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere every year.
the EUDR will affect three main sectors in Vietnam including coffee, rubber, and wood and wood products.
