Presiding over the event, President Vladimir Putin the Victory Day is momentous and sacred to every family of the great Russia, a day of national pride and unfading memories. He said the victory marked the end of the Second World War and the enormous sacrifices of the Red Army soldiers and people of Russia. President Putin added that many forces are attempting to distort facts and rewrite history, denying the great contributions and sacrifices of the Soviet Union in saving Europe and the world from slavery and genocide. He affirmed that he and the Russians will never let this happen and that the country is ready to hold dialogues on global security and build equal cooperation for peace and prosperity in the world.

On Wednesday, hundreds of thousands of Russians took part in the Immortal Regiment march to commemorate Second World War soldiers.
