(VOVworld) - Venezuela wants "relations of respect" with the US, President Nicolas Maduro said after a meeting with US Vice President Biden on the sidelines of the inauguration of Brazil's President Rousseff on Friday.

This was the first high-level meeting between the US and Venezuela after US President Barack Obama approved sanctions targeting Venezuelan individuals who are allegedly responsible for human rights violations during February protests against President Maduro's government.

Earlier, Venezuela said it would sue the US to the UN and other international organizations for Washington’s intervention in Venezuela’s interior affairs. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said as in independent country, Venezuela does not allow the US to promulgate any laws on Venezuela.
