(VOVworld) -  More than 2,000 residents in Van Don island district, Quang Ninh province gained access to electricity ahead of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) thanks to a national grid project inaugurated on Saturday. The work, launched by the Northern Power Corporation last April, was completed on schedule after eight months of implementation, at a total cost of 14.5 million USD. More than 84 km of middle voltage lines, around 53 km of low voltage lines and 21 transformer stations were built in the five islands of Van Don District. Dang Huy Mau is Deputy Chairman of Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee: "This event is of great importance to people living in Van Don district, especially the five communes of Quan Lan, Minh Chau, Ban Sen, Ngoc Vung and Thang Loi. We believe this will significantly improve local living conditions and contribute to the development of tourism and marine economy of Quang Ninh province."
