(VOVWORLD) - The United States will continue to hold joint military exercises with South Korea and Japan to enhance the countries' defense capabilities, Yonhap news agency quoted John Kirby, National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications.

Kirby said the US is going to continue to make sure they have all the defensive capabilities they need available in the region to defend their interests, as well as those of the US’s treaty allies, Japan and South Korea.

He also urged North Korea to engage in dialogue saying that the US remains willing to sit down without preconditions with Kim Jong-un to try to find a diplomatic path forward for the denuclearization of the peninsula.
