(VOVworld) – The US supports Argentina in elevating its position in the world, US President Barack Obama said during a meeting with Argentine President Mauricio Macri on Wednesday. Obama praised changes under Macri’s leadership, and said the two countries can be effective allies. Macri said Obama’s visit demonstrates solidarity.

Argentine Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra and US ambassador to Argentina Noah Mamet witnessed the signing of a bilateral cooperative agreement and issued a joint statement in support of the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Human Rights System.

Obama visited a memorial to the victims of the Argentine military dictatorship to mark the 40 year anniversary of Argentina’s last military coup.
