During bilateral talks the same day in Gyeongju, President Lee asked the US to allow Seoul to obtain fuel for nuclear-powered submarines and promote consultations on revising the bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement. South Korea wants to be granted greater rights to reprocess spent nuclear fuel and enrich uranium to meet its long-term defense and energy needs.
The two sides also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Technology Prosperity Deal to expand cooperation in AI, space, next-generation mobile networks, biotechnology, quantum innovation and pharmaceutical supply chain guarantee.
