US Senate rejects immigration bill

(VOVWORLD) - The US Senate on Thursday rejected the immigration legislation crafted by the Republican and the Democratic parties in a 54-45 vote.

The legislation, which aims to strengthen border security and protect young immigrants, needs 60 votes to pass. Prior to the vote, President Donald Trump threatened to veto the bill, but his administration was committed to coming up with a fair and long-term solution to the Obama-era Defferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
