President Donald Trump was welcomed by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani upon his arrival at Hamad International Airport and was later received with full honors at the Amiri Diwan Royal Palace. The two leaders held a private meeting that lasted longer than originally scheduled.
Speaking after the talks, Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani described the discussions as excellent, while Trump called the meeting very interesting.
The two sides discussed a range of issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Iran, and bilateral trade relations.
Observers said that the conflict in Gaza was also likely part of the discussion between the Qatari and US leaders.
On the same day, Trump and the Emir of Qatar witnessed the signing of a joint statement on cooperation between the two governments, plus several key bilateral agreements, including those in aviation and defense.
The most notable was a historic agreement between Qatar Airways and American aircraft manufacturer Boeing, under which Qatar Airways placed an order for 210 jets. The total value of the agreement exceeds 200 billion USD, with 160 billion USD allocated specifically for the aircraft purchase.
