ASEAN sources say the US wants to hold the summit in the third week of January and is discussing the date with ASEAN members.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to visit several ASEAN countries, including Indonesia and Thailand, next month.
The summit will be the first face-to-face meeting between Biden and ASEAN leaders since the US President took office last January.
During the virtual ASEAN-US summit late last month, President Biden said that the US will provide more than 100 million USD to support ASEAN’s efforts to cope with COVID-19 and other issues.
