(VOVWORLD) -Following talks at the White House on Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where the two discussed the situation in Ukraine and prospects for peace, President Donald Trump raised the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Ukraine and Russia to discuss ways to end the conflict.

President Trump said Europe could give security guarantees to Ukraine with US "coordination".

“I don't think we need a ceasefire. I like the concept of a ceasefire for one reason: because you'd stop killing people immediately. But we can work a deal where we're working on a peace deal while they're fighting. I'd like them to stop, but strategically, that could be a disadvantage for one side or the other. I’ve made all of these deals without the mention of the word ceasefire,” said President Trump

President Zelensky said Ukraine supports international initiatives to end the conflict and is ready to take part in a trilateral dialogue mechanism.

Shortly after meeting Zelensky, President Trump held talks with several European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Mr. Trump told the leaders that achieving peace in Ukraine will require considering different options, including the possibility of territorial exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. He said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky can find common ground to end the conflict.

Mr. Putin on Monday held phone conversations with several world leaders to brief them on the outcome of his recent summit with Mr. Trump in Alaska. In calls with the presidents of South Africa, Tajikistan, and Brazil, those leaders voiced support for diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful settlement.

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said the Alaska meeting was an important step toward “reducing tensions and strengthening mutual understanding in the world.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Monday reaffirmed Moscow’s opposition to any scenario involving NATO troops in Ukraine. She said that would run counter to efforts by Russian and US leaders to seek a comprehensive, fair and sustainable settlement to the conflict.
