The move increases pressure on TikTok owner ByteDance, as the US is concerned that the app can be used to spy on US citizens and contains banned content.
A TikTok spokesperson said that the bill is "politically motivated" and "will not help strengthen the US’s security”. The statement said that Tiktok will continue to inform the US Congressmen about its plans "to strengthen the protection of its platform in the US".
During a hearing last month, FBI Director Chris Wray said TikTok's activities in the US raise concerns for national security.
Early this week Alabama and Utah were the two latest states to ban TikTok on public agency devices and computer networks.
