At the official commissioning at Norfolk naval base, Virginia, Trump said this 13-billion-USD USS Gerald Ford sends a “100,000-tonne message to the world” about America’s military might and America’s enemies will “shake with fear” when the Ford is ultimately deployed.
The new vessel with cutting-edge technology is America’s first new carrier design in over 40 years. The Gerald R. Ford-class will eventually be a phased replacement for the Nimitz-class carriers with as many as 10 vessels, which are named after Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz who led the US Pacific Fleet for most of World War II.
