Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, has been charged with conspiring and attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State and receiving a firearm to be used to commit a crime, the Justice Department said.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said the Justice Department foiled the defendant's plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and carry out a violent attack in the name of ISIS on US soil on Election Day. On Monday, Tawhedi and a juvenile were arrested while buying two AK-47 assault rifles, 10 magazines, and 500 rounds of ammunition.
