US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that he wants to work with the US’s partners to advance their shared economic interests and to counter some of China’s aggressive and coercive actions and make China uphold its international commitments. Blinken specifically mentioned China’s threats to freedom of navigation, its militarization of the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam), and its targeting of Indo-Pacific countries with increasingly sophisticated military capabilities.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said China is investing heavily in military weapons, including nuclear-capable missiles. He criticized China’s actions in Hong Kong and the Xinjiang region and its attempts to undermine the international rules-based order.
