Total budget collection in June rose 13%, or 60 billion USD, to 526 billion USD, the highest monthly total on record, according to the Treasury Department.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on X that the results show the US "reaping the rewards" from President Trump's tariff agenda. He said the US could collect “well over” 300 billion USD in tariffs by the end of the year, particularly after new tariffs — such as a 50% tax on imported copper and reciprocal duties on goods from other countries — take effect on August 1.
However, some economists warn that tariff revenue may not be sustainable as businesses and consumers adjust their behavior to avoid taxes, and that over-reliance on tariffs could lead to long-term risks for the federal budget.
