CNN reports that USS Mesa Verde amphibious transport dock has carried 550 marines to the Persian Gulf. 

Kerry said the air strikes are unlikely to be “the whole answer”, but they may be one option to protect civilians from the terrorists. Kerry added that President Obama is taking every possible plan into consideration, including attacks by unmanned drones. Kerry said Washington wouldn't rule out anything, including talking to Iran about assisting the Iraqi government.
CNN has reported that USS Mesa Verde amphibious transport dock has carried 550 marines to the Persian Gulf in case Washington opts for direct military assistance. Last Saturday, the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush was deployed to the region.
