Pence is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to discuss stronger bilateral military ties and efforts to push China to use its influence on curbing North Korea’s threats.

Earlier, Abe reiterated Japan’s support for the US’s options on the table, including military action, to make North Korea move toward ridding itself of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

Pence and Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso will lead the inaugural US-Japan Economic Dialogue that will focus on economic policies, trade and investment regulations, and cooperation in infrastructure and energy.
