The two established what has been called the "San Francisco vision", oriented toward the future and outlining a blueprint for the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US relations. Blinken shared Washington's views on the Middle East and the Hamas-Israel conflict, in which he emphasized support for a two-state solution.

The US and China have recently made several diplomatic moves to improve bilateral relations. In mid-November, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden met on the sidelines of the APEC Summit Week, clearly acknowledging the importance of their relationship. The two agreed that this relationship needs to be managed responsibly.

This was the first summit between US and Chinese leaders this year. It followed last year’s meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia.
