An unusually deep and cold lake founded in Thung cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park |
During a return trip in July to the Lo Lung lake which was discovered in early May, the explorers accidentally found a lake near the entrance of Thung Cave, about 1 kilometer away from the ‘hanging’ lake.
The mouth of the lake is only about 10 meters wide, surrounded by a lot of mud and earth, with clear blue and tranquil water. Notably, the lake is nearly 18m in depth and has the water temperature at 16 degrees Celsius.
The explorers assumed that the lake may connect to another underground cave system in Thung Cave and lead to a very large cavern at the bottom layer. However, they said this is only a preliminary hypothesis, and further explorations with more equipment are needed for additional investigation.
