Mr. Lacroix reaffirmed the UN’s support for Vietnam’s efforts to clear unexploded ordnance, helping to ensure safe and peaceful lives for affected communities.

He described Vietnam as a highly responsible and engaged UN member that champions multilateralism and maintains a sustainable partnership with the organization. UN Deputy Chief noted that Vietnam stands out as a “model” of political will, with a clear and effective strategy for bomb and mine clearance.

Beyond post-war recovery, Mr. Lacroix also highlighted Vietnam’s growing contributions to UN peacekeeping missions. Vietnamese personnel—ranging from police officers to engineering units in Abyei and Level 2 Field Hospitals in South Sudan—have made meaningful contributions and earned high regard from local communities, he said.

Since 2014, Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence has deployed nearly 1,100 personnel to UN peacekeeping missions and the UN headquarters, both individually and in formed units.
