UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the launches violate Security Council resolutions and seriously undermine regional peace and stability. Guterres renewed his call for the North Korean leadership to refrain from further provocations. US defense officials reported that North Korea fired 5, not 4, ballistic missiles on Monday.

According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, the test-launch was part of a ballistic rocket launching drill involving the Hwasong artillery units of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) Strategic Force to strike US forces in Japan.
