The UN employs around 300 international staff and 3,000 national staff in Afghanistan. The world body is committed to delivering humanitarian support to the Afghan people in their hour of need.
The same day, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said the EU must welcome Afghans who are "in immediate danger" with the arrival to power of the Taliban, especially women and girls.
The UK Foreign Ministry has announced the UK will double its humanitarian and development aid to Afghanistan this year. It called on others to follow its lead to ensure the most vulnerable Afghans receive the assistance they need.
