UN Security Council adopts new sanctions against North Korea

(VOVWORLD) - The UN Security Council on Monday unanimously adopted new sanctions on North Korea imposing a ban on textile exports and a ceiling on the country’s imports of crude oil.

The resolution limits deliveries of refined oil products to 500,000 barrels for three months starting October 1 and to two million barrels starting January 1 for a period of 12 months.The new resolution calls for diplomacy, including resumption of six-party talks.

The draft resolution was proposed to the UN Security Council after 4 days of negotiations between the US, Russia, and China. Pyongyang warned the US on Monday that it will pay a “due price” for spearheading UN sanctions.
