In another development, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said he had a constructive discussion with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in which he welcomed Yoav’s commitment to take additional steps to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry conveyed Egypt’s firm stance against any Israeli military operations in Palestinian Rafah, warning of potential humanitarian disasters and complex repercussions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said he will not send a delegation as planned to Washington after the United States refrained from vetoing a UN Security Council proposal calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Netanyahu said that Washington’s failure to block the proposal was a “clear retreat” from its previous position, and would hurt Israeli efforts against Hamas, as well as efforts to release over 130 Israelis held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.
