(VOVworld) – Burundi’s Foreign Minsiter Alain Nyamitwe said Burundi has accepted the UN Security Council’s resolution to send police to the country to ensure security following several months of political tension.

He said some UN police units can help stabilize the situation. He reiterated Burundi’s rejection to develop UN peacekeeping force in the country.
On April 1, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution to deploy a UN police presence to Burundi. Drafted by France, the resolution asks Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to come up with various options within 15 days for the deployment of UN police - in consultation with the Burundian government and the African Union.
