(VOV) - The UN General Assembly approved on Thursday a new resolution condemning human rights violations in Syria and calling for an immediate end to the violence there. The resolution, the latest international effort to resolve Syria’s political crisis, also urges Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down. Earlier, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the Syrian government to end its crackdowns on civilians, and accused the regime of crimes against humanity.
International human rights groups say some 7,000 civilians have been killed in Syria since March.
