Addressing the event, UN Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare and UN Police Adviser Faisal Shahkar expressed their admiration for the tireless efforts and achievements of the Vietnam People’s Public Security over the past eight decades. They highlighted the contributions, professionalism, and high discipline of Vietnam’s forces, including People’s Public Security officers, in UN peacekeeping missions, which have helped reinforce international peace and security while promoting the core values of the UN Charter and multilateralism.

The event, chaired by Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN, also welcomed Acting UN Military Adviser Cheryl Pearce, ambassadors, police and military advisers, and representatives of permanent missions to the UN.

Vietnam sent its first police officers to work at the UN Headquarters in 2022. More than 20 officers and soldiers have been on duty at UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, Abyei (a disputed area between Sudan and South Sudan), and the Central African Republic. More than 30% of the police officers assigned to UN peacekeeping missions are women, showing Vietnam’s firm commitment to the UN’s “Women, Peace and Security” agenda.
