(VOVworld) – The civil war in Syria has caused the biggest migrant and humanitarian crisis of all time. Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Angelina Jolie Pitt, UNHCR Special Envoy, delivered speeches marking the 5^th anniversary of Syria’s civil war.

They called on the world community to quickly disburse money committed to supporting Syrians and seek ways to end the crisis. Mr. Grandi criticized the international community for not taking effective action to end the growing refugee crisis in the region. In Libya, Angelina Jolie urged governments to focus on root causes and display courage and far-reaching vision when making decisions concerning Syria. She also called on governments to uphold the UN Convention on Refugees and fundamental human rights laws.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Russia’s Permanent Representative Agency to the UN, Syria government representatives are ready to participate constructively in peace talks to seek a solution to the Syrian conflict.
