According to Ban, although certain achievements have been acknowledged in efforts to ensure an equal life between men and women, there are currently 1/3 of women and girls in the world that are suffering from violence and restrictions in accessing basic human rights. The UN calls on all governments, civil society, and the world community to fight for gender equality so that women can enjoy equal rights as men.
