António Guterres said in a statement on Wednesday that he deeply regrets the Taliban's suspension of the return to school for high school girls. He added that the Taliban’s move, despite repeated commitments, is a profound disappointment and deeply damaging for Afghanistan. He urged the Taliban authorities to open schools for all students without any further delay.
The same day spokesman for the Department of State Ned Price said the Taliban’s U-turn over re-opening girls’ secondary schools go against its commitments to Afghan people and the international community. It will affect the global process to recognize the Taliban.
