(VOVWORLD) - UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday ruled out ever asking the European Union to delay Britain's departure, warning that there will be no negotiation if the no-deal Brexit is blocked.

He said his administration will not change its strategy on Brexit despite intense pressure from the public.

“I want everybody to know there are no circumstances in which I would ask Brussels to delay," Mr. Johnson said, "we’re leaving on the 31st of October, no ifs or buts. We will not accept any attempt to go back on our promises or scrub that referendum. With that conviction, I believe we will get a deal at that crucial summit in October. And in the meantime, let’s let out negotiators get on with their work without that sword of Damocles over their necks and without an election.”

An alliance of opposition MPs is plotting with rebels in Mr. Johnson's Conservative Party to tie the government's hands with legislation that would block a no-deal exit. A Downing Street source said Britain will go to the polls for a snap election on October 14 if MPs vote to prevent a no-deal Brexit.
