At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, British ministers debated an extension until June 30 with the option of a delay of one year or more if the House of Commons continues to vote against every Brexit deal proposed by the Prime Minister.
Michel Barnier, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator, said the EU will not agree to a delay if there is no concrete plan for the extension.
The UK is supposed to leave the EU 10 days from now whether there is a deal with the EU or not.
The European Council, meanwhile, has adopted a series of measures to prepare for a no-deal scenario. The measures will restrict the possible damage caused by a disorderly Brexit.
