According to initial report by the Department of Search and Rescue at the Ministry of National Defense, tens of thousands of houses were damaged, with roofs blown off; tens of thousands of trees were uprooted or broken; and thousands of hectares of rice and crops were inundated.

After inspecting the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi in Quang Ninh province, on Sunday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Hai Phong city, one of the headrest hit localities where two people died, hundreds of houses, schools, and offices were damaged; more than 6,000 trees were broken; and 16,700 hectares of rice and crops were affected.

After an inspection tour, Prime Minister Chinh chaired a meeting with leaders of Hai Phong city. He requested them to fully and accurately count the damage, calculate plans, and deploy support for affected families, especially families of the dead or injured.

PM Chinh stressed the need to mobilize forces for cleanup; ensure food safety; swiftly fix power and telecommunications outages; urgently repair damaged educational and medical facilities so that students can return to school as soon as possible; and ensue medical examination and treatment for people.

The Prime Minister said that the Central Government will support Hai Phong with 4.3 million USD and encouraged the city to promote the spirit of self-reliance to overcome the consequences of the storm and floods, and return to normalcy.

Also on Sunday, the Deputy Prime Ministers inspected the Typhoon Yagi recovery efforts in a number of localities. Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long inspected and inquired about the lives and production situation of people in Hai Duong province.

“We prepared quite well. People were banned from going to sea and given warnings in advance, so the human loss is less than in previous storms, but the material damage is extremely heavy. The Prime Minister decided to send a support package to the provinces, and provincial leaders will deliver and encourage locals based on the damage situation," Deputy PM Long said.
