Turkish President meets with President Putin in Sochi

(VOVWORLD) -Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday had talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi during his one-day visit to Russia.

Putin thanked Erdogan for helping to negotiate the grain deal and that the problem of Ukraine's grain supply from the Black Sea ports has been resolved and a package decision on the uninterrupted supply of Russian food and fertilizers to the world market has been adopted. President Putin expressed hope for the signing of a memorandum of understanding on developing economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The Turkish president expressed hope for the beginning of a new page in bilateral relations, stressing that the fight against terrorism is important for Ankara. He also expected that construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will be completed as planned. The Akkuyu plant, located in Mersin province (southern Turkey), was built by Russia's state atomic energy corporation Rosatom in 2018. According to the plan, the first reactor will be launched in 2023.
